Election letter: Prosser schools: Yes

January 7, 2014

Please vote yes on the upcoming Prosser School District Maintenance and Operations Levy and help insure the quality education that our students have always received. We will be voting on this very important measure on Feb. 11.

The levy will be for four years. The committee spoke to many clubs, organizations and individuals and was able to determine that there was a consensus for a longer duration levy than in the past. Those whom we met with cited the high cost of placing the measure on the ballot every other year. Another rational was that our taxpayers could better budget for a four-year levy.

We will maintain the tax rate of $3 per $1,000 of assessed property value for the entire four-year period. This rate will be less than the $3.27 per $1,000 on the current expiring levy. The rate could be reduced, as it has in the past, if there is an increase in property valuation.

As this year's levy committee chairman, I encourage you to vote yes so we can continue to provide our students the necessary tools to prepare them for their future.
