-- Air Force Airman Elizabeth E. Ferry graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Ferry is the daughter of Julie Surmeyer of Prosser.

She is a 2011 graduate of Prosser High School.

-- Air Force Senior Airman David J. Shelby has graduated from the Air Force Airman Leadership School at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., and has received the John L. Levitow Award.

The award is the highest honor presented to a graduate who has demonstrated the highest degree of excellence as a class leader and scholar, based on most outstanding in objective testing, performance evaluations, and leadership.

Shelby is an airframe and power plant general maintenance journeyman assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing.

The senior airman has served in the military for five years.

He is the son of Grace Shelby of Othello, and Brian Shelby of Centralia.

Shelby graduated in 2008 from Othello High School.
