Tri-City HeraldDecember 28, 2013

No one was injured in a fire Saturday morning near Grandview, officials said.

The fire, reported at 11:23 a.m., caused an estimated $75,000 in damages to a shop, small barn and three vehicles at 1070 South County Line Road, Yakima Fire District 3 Battalion Chief Ken Shipman said in a news release.

The property owner, Danny Penwell, reported smelling smoke while working in the shop, Shipman said. He found fire near the shop's ceiling.

The fire spread quickly and the shop and adjacent barn were totally involved in fire when firefighters arrived, Shipman said.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings when they arrived, Shipman said.

Two Yakima County stations, as well as an engine and water tender from Benton Fire District 3 responded to the fire. A total of 14 firefighters came to the blaze.

The fire was under control at 12:16 p.m., Shipman said.
