Hanfords Will Bishop and Dallon Grinder won titles for the host Falcons while a quartet of champions helped Sunnyside make a run into the top three at Fridays Winter Cup wrestling tournament.
Bishop, who placed fourth at state last year as a junior, defeated River Views Ruvim Tyutyunnik 10-7 in the 195-pound title match after both advanced through the first two rounds with a pair of pins. Grinder won the title at 285 with a 52-second stop of Chiawanas Cameron Silvers.
Sunnyside got titles in the first three weights from Jacob Mendoza, Jesse Torres and Jesse Barajas, the state champ at 113 last year. But the Grizzlies other returning state champion, Homer Romero, was pinned late in the second period of the 126 title match by Decaturs Levitus Arizpe, who placed third at state at 113 last season.
That started a run of six straight finalists and four champs for the Gators, who went on to win the team title ahead of Mt. Spokane and Sunnyside.
Torres title at 113 came after a tight 3-2 win over Hanfords Blake Llarenas, and the Grizzlies got another championship at 182 from Daniel Avalos, who posted an 8-0 major decision over Chiawanas Clayton Johnson in the final.
Grandviews Joesiah Saunders took the 152 bracket, finishing with a 6-1 win in the final to cap a trio of one-sided decisions.
Chiawana had another second-place finish from Blake Bishop at 160 after he lost 5-2 to Decatur state-placer Brandon Zimmerman in the final.
Kennewick had a pair of runner-up finishers, the first at 132 as Alejandro Ramos was pinned at the end of the second period in the final after winning a close 8-6 match over Kamiakins Damien Gooldy in the semifinals. Robby Calvert finished second for the Lions at 220 after being pinned in the second round by Mt. Spokanes Tom Harvey.
