Tri-City HeraldDecember 27, 2013

"Winter Wonderlands of the World" is the theme for this year's 9th annual Warm Up With Cool Books event offered by the regional Service Corps-AmeriCorps.

The goal for this project is to provide a fun learning environment for children and encourage positive attitudes toward literacy.

Children will hear interesting stories, and can participate in entertaining and educational activities and games. Children of any age are welcome and families are encouraged to join in the fun as well.

Events are scheduled Saturday at the Kennewick, West Richland and Keewaydin Mid-Columbia Libraries branches, Richland Public Library and Cyber Stop in Pasco. Two sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and from 1 to 2:45 p.m.

The Benton City branch will hold events from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

Children and families are welcome to attend as many sessions as they like.

The Regional Service Corps is a part of the AmeriCorps National Service Network.

AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 people in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.

Since the program's founding in 1994, more than 800,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
