Boys basketball: Kamiakin solid in 4th in victory

Kylle Robertson scored a game-high 25 points and dished out seven assists and Shae Gurney had six points and 11 rebounds Saturday to lead Kamiakin to a 58-48 Mid-Columbia Conference victory over Chiawana in Kennewick.

The Riverhawks outscored the Braves 20-11 in the third quarter to pull within 42-40, but Kamiakin held on in the fourth for their first league victory.

“Chiawana came out and made some shots and put a good run on us,” Kamiakin coach Brian Meneely said. “The kids were able to withstand the run and really showed some good toughness and were able to fight back. I was really proud of their ability to fight through adversity.”

Deion Singleton’s 15 points and three steals led the Riverhawks, while Victor Koval added 12 points.

Nathan Streufert added 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Drew McCullough had nine points and four assists.

Jose Correa’s nine points led Pasco.

Walla Walla 60, Kennewick 54: Gabe Porter led all scorers with 18 points to lift the Blue Devils to Mid-Columbia Conference home win over the Lions.

Walla Walla took a 13-7 first-quarter lead and bumped it up to 35-24 at the half.

“They had a nice second quarter,” Kennewick coach Bradyn Leyde said. “We battled back, but they made some free throws down the stretch.”

Mitchel Mueller’s 13 points led Kennewick.

“Brown played a great game,” River View coach Roger Sonderland said. “His penetration and going to the foul line was key.”

Liberty Christian 58, Tekoa-Oakesdale 26: Isaiah Ojeda led all scorers with 14 points, and Cameron Godwin and Robby Heiman had 12 points apiece as the Patriots recorded a Southeast 1B road win over the Nighthawks.

Liberty Christian trailed 16-13 after one quarter but held Tekoa-Oakesdale to just 10 points over the final 24 minutes.

Heiman added 12 rebounds for the Patriots.
