Police: Speed likely cause of two-car wreck on Highway 397

December 19, 2013

— Speed likely caused a two-car crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 397 three miles south of Kennewick, the Washington State Patrol said.

Desiree L. Carr, 19, of Kennewick, was driving a Kia Rio south on Highway 397 near Bowles Road about 3:40 p.m., the state patrol said.

Carr reportedly failed to see a Ford Expedition stopped in the southbound lane making a lefthand turn, the state patrol said. The Expedition was driven by Raymundo G. Arellano Espinoza, 25, of Kennewick.

The Kia hit the Expedition’s right rear end and went off roadway and down an embankment, the state patrol said.

Bailey K. Howell, 14, of Kennewick, a passenger in the Kia, was injured and taken to Trios Health in Kennewick with unknown injures. The drivers weren’t injured, the state patrol said.
