Letter: Rainbow Bridge place for animals

December 19, 2013

I would like to share a recent incident I experienced. The day after Thanksgiving, as I was driving through a residential area, I noticed a cat stumble and fall on the sidewalk. Initially, I assumed he had been struck by a vehicle, however this was not the case. Unfortunately the cat was found to be extremely malnourished and suffering from the extremely cold weather.

She was taken to the VCA Animal Medical Center and it was determined that she needed to be euthanized. While Dr. Kelly Sandmeier was preparing this procedure, I petted and shared with her that she was a good kitty and did not deserve such a painful life. I shared with her excerpts from a poem entitled The Rainbow Bridge. "Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge." It's a place where hurt or maimed animals are made whole and happy.

We often view on TV images of animals that are abused. We may change the channel or shed a tear. When I saw a literally dying cat on the sidewalks in Richland it really hit home. Christmas is a time of giving. Please give generously to animal organizations. They need your support.
