Wyant leads Hermiston boys to win at Southridge

By the Tri-City HeraldDecember 18, 2013

Hermiston erased a 10-point third quarter deficit to force overtime and Lucas Wyant hit a 3-pointer to open the extra period as the Bulldogs edged the Suns 76-75 in overtime Wednesday in Kennewick.

Wyant finished with 24, tying Southridge guard Spencer Vorheis for the night’s top output.

“The other night (Vorheis) had 26 and was hitting a lot of jumpers,” Suns coach D.J. Traver said. “Tonight, he was getting in the lane and creating for himself. We’ll see if he can keep it up.”

Jake Flyg and C.J. Flores combined for 33 points to help Hermiston’s cause.

Southridge led 21-15 after one quarter and 54-47 after three before the Bulldogs evened the score with a free throw with 5 seconds remaining.

Traver said the Suns got a look at a potential game-winning bucket in the extra period, but it rimmed out.
