Late free throws lift Hermiston girls past Southridge

By the Tri-City HeraldDecember 18, 2013

Trailing by four points with just over two minutes left Wednesday night, the Southridge Suns decided to foul the visiting Hermiston Bulldogs in hopes of finding a shaky free-throw shooter.

Instead, they found Shelby Sanders, who drained all seven shots from the free-throw line as Hermiston held on for a 46-39 road win.

“We sent them to the line 18 times in the fourth quarter. If we don’t do that, they just sit on the ball,” Suns coach Scott Stiles said. “The girls fought until the very end. We just had a couple of untimely turnovers.”

Hermiston guard Lily Ringe led all scorers with 12 points, and Jansen Edmiston added 10 for the Bulldogs.

Jaid Harris led Southridge with 11 points, and Caitlyn Wormington pulled down 10 rebounds.
