Yakima River may flood because of ice flows

Tri-City HeraldDecember 10, 2013

Residents along the Yakima River should watch for localized flooding caused by ice in low-lying areas of Benton City, West Richland and Richland, according to Benton County Emergency Management.

The river remains well below flood stage at Kiona, at less than six feet deep. Flood stage is 13 feet. In the past, horses and cattle have been stranded by Yakima River water running through a pasture.

The agency also warned people to stay off the ice and stay away from the river's edge.
