Man in Benton County Superior Court on counts of child rape, molestation

Tri-City HeraldDecember 10, 2013

Bail was set Tuesday at $100,000 for a 32-year-old man accused of raping and molesting an elementary school-aged girl.

Michael Ray Caldwell appeared in Benton County Superior Court on two counts of first-degree rape of a child and first-degree child molestation charges.

While Caldwell was being held at the Yakima County jail for allegedly molesting a 7-year-old girl, he told investigators he had sexually abused another girl in Kennewick, according to a probable cause affidavit. The now 9-year-old girl told a forensic interviewer she was abused by Caldwell for several years.

The abuse reportedly took place in the Tri-Cities and North Dakota, the affidavit said. The charges allege Caldwell was in a position of trust when the abuse took place.
