Ams win first of 2 at Prince George

December 6, 2013

The Tri-City Americans opened their two-game trip to Prince George with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Cougars on Friday night before a crowd of 1,503 at CN Centre.

Braden Purtill scored at 4:21 of the extra session as the Americans (17-12-1-2) ran their win streak to three games.

Both teams scored twice in the first and were tied at two after 20 minutes.

Marcus Messier scored short-handed, picking up a rebound off a shot by Lucas Nickles at 7:41, while Beau McCue’s goal at 16:42 on the power play tied the game at 2.

Nickles used his speed to give the Americans a 3-2 lead 5 minutes into the second. Nickles picked up a loose puck off a face-off and motored up ice all alone and beat Ty Edmonds five-hole for his seventh goal of the season.

Prince George pulled Edmonds for an extra attacker with 67 second remaining, and Todd Fiddler tied the game at 3 with 45 seconds left in regulation.

Eric Comrie finished with 38 saves for Tri-City.
