Letter: Alternative Gift Fair planned in Pasco Saturday

December 5, 2013

As you may know, my sister-in-law Terry does not need another lettuce spinner, nor does Uncle Donnie Doodles need another pair of slippers. Most of us don't need more "stuff."

What is needed at this time of year is support for our local nonprofit organizations that assist the less fortunate. Give a gift of a donation to one or more of the 16 groups represented at the Alternative Gift Fair. This is the gift that makes you and your friend or family member feel good. This is a gift that brings hope and relief to our fellow human beings. You make the donation to the group of your choice in the name of your friend or family member.

Each organization will be represented by its leaders. Naturally, I have a favorite organization, and I would appreciate your donating large amounts in my name to: Sunrise Rotary Ethiopia Vision Clinic. Dr. Jim Guzek will be at the fair to answer questions and bring you up to date on his effort to restore sight to people blind with cataracts.

I highly recommend attending the 7th annual Alternative Gift Fair from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Community Unitarian Universalist Church, 2819 W. Sylvester St., Pasco. Call the church at 545-6777 or go to www.communityuu.org.
