Tri-City HeraldDecember 3, 2013

— A 67-year-old man serving time in a Umatilla prison on marijuana and sodomy convictions died after he was found unconscious in his cell.

Prison staff found Larry Hurst alone in his cell at the Two Rivers Correctional Institution around 10 p.m. Sunday. He had been in the Oregon Department of Corrections’ custody since April of 2010.

DOC officials issued a release about Hurst’s death Tuesday.

Hurst was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the DOC release said. His earliest release date was in 2015.

DOC officials did not release a cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.

The prison is a minimum security facility that houses 1,800 inmates.
