Operation Christmas Child breaks record

By The Tri-City HeraldDecember 2, 2013

A record number of gift-filled Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes were collected from throughout the Mid-Columbia and Eastern Oregon on Nov. 25.

Volunteers counted 14,803 boxes this year -- surpassing the 2012 collection by 2,161 boxes. They have been loaded on a truck and shipped to a regional collection point in Los Angeles. The boxes, filled with small toys, personal hygiene items and school supplies, are destined for the Philippines, Indonesia, Madagscar, Mongolia, Nepal, Panama and the Ukraine.
