Volleyball: Southridge grad Mix leads Blue Mountain to win

Blue Mountain Community College moved a step closer to defending its NWAACC volleyball title Thursday, opening the tournament with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-15 victory at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham.

Southridge graduate Kensey Mix had nine kills in the victory, while Pasco grad Sierra Linke added six kills and seven digs. Hermiston’s Crystal Schmidt chipped in six kills and 1.5 blocks.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Spokane went 1-1 to remain alive in the consolation bracket. The Sasquatch lost to Lower Columbia 20-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-18, before bouncing back to beat Everett 25-23, 25-21.

Kennewick graduate Madison Zinsli had 61 assists, 10 digs, four kills and an ace in those two matches.

Walla Walla went 0-2, falling 25-18, 27-25, 25-18 to Tacoma and 25-23, 26-24 to Chemeketa. WaHi graduate Chantelle Zamora had 17 kills and 12 digs in the two matches.

Columbia Basin College did not qualify.
