Letter: Camerata Musica's divine production illustrates need for performing arts center

I'm grateful for another local performing arts treat when the first Camerata Musica audience of the 2013-14 season overflowed into the lobby of Battelle Auditorium where we listened to a brilliant pianist trained to the peak of his talent.

Selections composed by Mozart, Borodin and Brahms expressed creativity and talent that reaches "beyond human" into the divine. Such music is a spiritually enriching experience.

What a pity we have no performing arts center worthy of the exaltation our productions provide for us.

Helping our youth

Thank you to all who made the Safe Harbor/My Friends Place Beggars' Banquet fundraiser such a success and so much fun. Local restaurants and caterers donated wonderful soup. Donors provided decorated trees, auction and raffle items and gifts from Sails Outlet.

The hundreds in attendance showed their support for programs that care for youth and families in our community. Thanks to the many, many volunteers at the event, the musicians and those who set it all up or worked behind the scenes. The numerous smiling young volunteers did a great job.

Our convention center and its staff also did a wonderful job. The art presented by the youth who are served at the center shows some of the potential they have to offer the world. We in the community especially thank the staff, board and volunteers of Safe Harbor/My Friends Place who are helping to make the Tri-Cities such a great place to live. If you missed the fun, you can still send them your best wishes or a donation.
