Livingston Elementary to take part in evacuation drill Wednesday

— The Pasco School District will evacuate 900 students from Livingston Elementary School on Wednesday morning as part of an emergency preparedness drill.

District officials will work with school resource officers to conduct the drill, which will simulate a crash involving a tanker truck, near the school at the intersection of Road 84 and Livingston Road, a release said. Students will be taken to Chiawana High School as part of the exercise. Staff will meet afterward to discuss the drill and any improvements.

"It is important to not only have safety plans for every possibility, but also to practice these plans," said assistant superintendent John Morgan in the release. "This large-scale evacuation will allow the district to evaluate the process and to improve wherever possible."

The Pasco police and fire departments will not participate in the drill but district spokeswoman Leslee Caul said another exercise is being planned with those agencies for the spring.
