Letter: Multitude of hunger fighters ensure food bank can help the needy

November 14, 2013

As a volunteer at the Richland Food Bank, I am able to witness firsthand the generosity of many individuals, corporations, churches and other organizations.

It is heartening to know that there are adults and youth who step up and assist the food bank to serve needy people. I want to especially thank the youth of the Hindu Society for collecting donations of food and money in lieu of collecting candy on Halloween.

There are many such acts performed by individuals. The elderly lady who brought in green beans from her garden that were packaged in individual plastic bags. The man who heard we were out of canned green beans and returned with three flats of canned beans. The people who bring in fresh produce from their gardens. You all know who you are, and I believe the food bank volunteers also thank all of you.
