Everett shuts out Tri-City Americans 2-0

November 8, 2013

EVERETT — After earning points in seven consecutive games, the Tri-City Americans came up empty Friday night.

Tyler Sandhu and Mirco Mueller scored goals and Daniel Cotton finished with 14 saves as the Everett Silvertips shut out the Tri-City Americans 2-0 at Comcast Arena.

Everett also shut out Tri-City 2-0 on Oct. 4.

The Silvertips (13-3-2-0) led 1-0 on goal by Sandhu after 40 minutes.

Just 26 seconds into the third period, action was stopped because of issues with the ice.

The Zamboni scraped the ice too close, exposing the Breast Cancer Awareness logo. After several attempts to fill in the gap, the logo was removed, the ice fixed and the game resumed.

The Americans (11-9-0-2) had two short-handed breakaways in the third by Lucas Nickles and Braden Purtill, but neither could connect to tie the score.

Tri-City pulled goalie Eric Comrie for an extra attacker with two minutes remaining, but gave up an empty-net goal to Mueller with 1:17 to play.

Comrie finished with 33 saves, including 12 in the first period and 14 in the second. The Americans were outshot 35-14.
