Girls soccer: Chiawana falls to Central Valley in regional final

November 6, 2013

Central Valley 3, Chiawana 1: The Riverhawks lost in the District 5/8 regional tournament championship against the Bears on Wednesday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Savannah Hoekstra recorded a hat trick for Central Valley, which locked up a state berth with the win.

Chiawana (16-2) will host Mead at 5 p.m. Saturday with a state berth on the line in an elimination match.

“We fought all the way through, we just didn’t play well enough,” Chiawana coach Rich Zoller said. “It was a pretty evenly played match for the first 30 minutes. They got their second goal and kind of put us under a lot of pressure toward the end of the first half. We came out in the second half and we were able to get some balls into their defensive third and had some chances and were fighting hard for the equalizer.”

Hoekstra opened the scoring in the third minute off an assist by Megan Dimmler.

Alexis Stephenson quickly tied it in the fourth minute off an assist by freshman Kailey Leavens.

But Hoekstra added goals in the 28th and 69th minutes to finish off the Riverhawks.
