Letter: Bring troops home from Afghanistan

November 4, 2013

How long must we sing this song?

I am upset with the politicians in Washington playing games with the budget.

I am ashamed that the bureaucrats stopped the death benefits to families of our fallen soldiers.

However, I was extremely disappointed that you and I were not more outraged that we still have some of best and brightest falling in Afghanistan.

This lack of outrage reminded me of the lyrics from a U2 Song.

And it's true we are immune

When fact is fiction and TV reality

And today the millions cry

We eat and drink while tomorrow they die

To become a more informed citizen I started asking the following question; how many soldiers are there now, how many have fallen this year, how many will be there next, and how many more will fall.

The answers were: 63,000, 212, 30,000 to 10,000, and unknown.

My numbers may be off -- but if unknown is larger than one -- that will be another sad day.

Please support our troops and bring them home.
