Americans skate past Kootenay 4-2

By the Tri-City HeraldNovember 3, 2013

Mitch Topping led an aggressive offense with a goal, and Eric Comrie stopped 30 of 32 shots in net as the visiting Tri-City Americans defeated the Kootenay Ice 4-2 in Western Hockey League action Sunday.

The victory gives the Americans at least a point in all three of their Eastern road swing this past week.

It also gives them a 10-8-0-2 record.

Ty Comrie opened the scoring just 4:40 into the contest when he scored off assists from Braden Purtill and Justin Gutierrez.

Topping — with assists from Parker Bowles and Brian Williams — scored almost 10 minutes later to give Tri-City a 2-0 lead.

Kootenay did rally with goals from Austin Vetterl and Luke Philp to tie the game at 2-2, but goals by Williams and Marcus Messier in the third period enabled the Americans to take control of the game and get the victory.
