Volleyball: Chiawana tops Richland for district title

Shantelle Hill had 15 kills and 19 digs to lead the Chiawana to a 25-19, 25-10, 25-11 sweep of visiting Richland in the District 5 title match in Pasco on Saturday.

Chiawana recorded 45 kills to just eight errors in the sweep.

“The kids did a really good jof of putting into practice (Saturday) the things we worked on all week,” Chiawana coach Jim Steach said.

Kamiakin 3, Mt. Spokane 1: Strong serving helped the host Braves rally past the Wildcats in a District 5/8 elimination match.

Katelynn Fullmer was 35-of-35 serving with two aces, while Brianna Esvelt was 15-of-15 serving with two aces.

“It just looked like we were a little anxious and hyped up,” Kamiakin coach Mary Opitz said. “Then we settled into it a little more the next set.”

Shadle Park 3, Kennewick 0: The Lions’ season came to an end with a Class 3A regional loss to the Highlanders in Spokane.

Julisa Gonzalez had seven kills and 16 digs, and Sarah Cohan 30 digs for Kennewick.

“It was a good year overall,” coach Julie Maciboba said. “A great group of girls, and they worked hard. I’m pleased.”

Southridge 3, Rogers 0: Jordan Mix had 10 kills and eight digs and Alyssa Palmer had seven kills and 13 digs to lead the Suns to the easy District 5/8 victory in Kennewick.

District 9 2B tournament: Mary Hoppes had 22 kills and 31 digs over two matches, leading Tri-Cities Prep to the Southeast 2B district title.

The Jaguars beat DeSales 25-15, 25-11, 25-11 in a semifinal, then beat Asotin in the championship in three games.
