WHL: Medicine Hat tops Tri-City Americans in SO

Curtis Valk and Tommy Vannelli each scored in the shootout as Medicine Hat overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the Tri-City Americans 3-2 on Friday night.

The Americans (8-8-0-2), in the first game of their three-game Central Division road swing, got goals from Parker Bowles and Beau McCue to take a 2-0 lead in the second period.

Steven Owre pulled the Tigers (11-3-2-0) within 2-1 with a goal at 16:06 of the second, while Logan McVeigh tied the game at 14:18 of the third.

Americans goalie Eric Comrie had stopped three consecutive shots before McVeigh was able to put the puck in the net. Comrie finished with 28 saves.

Bowles, in his first game this season, turned a Dylan Bredo turnover into an unassisted goal to open the scoring at 11:54 of the second.

Tri-City plays at Lethbridge today and at Kootenay on Sunday.
