Kennewick woman in wheelchair hit by car

— A 56-year-old woman was hurt Tuesday night when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in her electric wheelchair.

Carol Carothers of Kennewick was taken to Trios Health, formerly Kennewick General Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries, Kennewick police reported.

She was crossing West 10th Avenue in the crosswalk about 7:45 p.m. when she was struck by a Nissan pickup trying to turn west onto 10th from South Washington Street, police said.

The force knocked over her chair and threw her to the road, police said.

The pickup driver, Wesley Preston, 19, of Kennewick, was cited for failing to yield, police reported.
