Election letter -- Convention center: Yes

Vote yes on Proposition 1: Expansion. The Three Rivers Convention Center is a regional project that has brought countless jobs and visitor spending to our community. The convention center has served as an economic engine to this community since its inception ten years ago. Expansion of the convention center cannot come at a better time.

The convention center over time has exceeded expectations and obtained numerous events with growing attendance. This has put the convention center at a disadvantage with larger venues, which have the capacity to support these larger events. We must remain competitive. Visitors to the community would increase, and in turn, frequent local restaurants, shops, hotels and partake in local recreational activities, in addition spurring development of private businesses. The new SpringHill Suites by Marriott, a 100 percent privately owned hotel being built adjacent to the convention center, is a perfect example of the private-public relationship. The expansion is the first step toward developing the "entertainment district" including a new Toyota Center, performing arts center, restaurants, hotels and businesses.

"If we build it, they will come" is a sure bet. Visitors will spend money in our community, creating jobs and increasing the quality of life for all of us.
