Hike for breast cancer awareness draws 150

October 29, 2013

About 150 people attended Northwest Cancer Clinic's recent Rising Above Cancer event at Badger Mountain. The event involved a hike to the top and a memorial for loved ones who've died.

Community First Bank, MIX 105.3 and KONA 610 AM also helped with the event, which raised money for the nonprofit Focus on Cancer.

Participants paid a minimum of $5 for biodegradable pink balloons to carry to the top, and the Kennewick cancer clinic provided a match for a total donation of $2,100 to Focus on Cancer, a news release said.

"This was a first-time event for Northwest Cancer Clinic and completely exceeded our expectations. The outpouring of love and support was amazing," said Dr. Sheila Rege, clinic medical director.
