Football: Schutt leads Prosser past East Valley

Mason Schutt threw for 222 yards and four touchdowns to help keep the Prosser Mustangs in the hunt for the playoffs with a 49-16 victory Friday over East Valley at Art Fiker Stadium.

Prosser (5-2, 5-3) is in a four-way tie for second place with Ephrata, Othello and West Valley for the final two playoff spots from the CWAC.

The Mustangs host Ephrata on Friday in a must-win game.

Against East Valley, Cardell Jones caught touchdowns of 48, 30 and 15 yards, while Ethan Hibbs returned an interception 49 yards for a TD.

Warden 32, Kiona-Benton 24: Orlando Alba kicked four field goals and scored a rushing touchdown to lead the Cougars to their first victory of the season against the visiting Bears.

Alba made field goals from 35, 32, 32 and 36 yards, and scored on a 34-yard run for Warden.

“He was all over the field,” Warden coach Erik Skone said. “He is our fastest kid and we got it to him in space.”

Nathan Cole added 124 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

“We’ve been on the doorstep many times this season, and this feels good to finally get it done,” Skone said.
