Potato sludge spill closes stretch of Highway 17 near Mesa

A potato sludge spill closed a stretch of Highway 17 near Mesa for more than seven hours Friday.

A crash involving a semi rolling over caused the spill about 12:45 p.m., a release said. The spill closed the northbound lanes.

Authorities didn't reopen that portion of the highway until just before 8 p.m.
