The TC Throwdown ski/snowboard event is Oct. 26 in downtown Kennewick. Mountains of snow will be hauled in then spread across Cascade Street and Kennewick Avenue for a ski/snowboard rail jam competition for amateurs as well as professional skiers.

There is no spectator fee, but the participation fee for amateur skiers is $30.

"Cascade Street will be shut down Friday afternoon so we can get the snow and the rails ready," said Brandon Squires, an organizer who also works at Sporthaus in Kennewick. "We'll also have kickoff party for the Shutdown at the Sports Page tav starting at 8 p.m. (Oct. 25)."

Preliminary festivities get started at 8 a.m. Oct. 26 and will continue throughout the day. The amateur skiers' practice time is from 3 to 5 p.m. with the competition set to begin at 5:40 p.m.

Last year's event drew more than 1,000 people even though the showdown was hindered by rain.

"But there's no rain in the forecast for this weekend's showdown, thank goodness," he added.
