Election letter -- Kennewick port: Givens

From the material we have read, we think the largest gap between Don Barnes and John Givens is proven leadership experience. Barnes is the current Port of Kennewick vice president and a one-year appointed commissioner.

Givens was a three-term elected port commissioner, serving four times as Port of Asotin County president. Givens was also unanimously elected by statewide port commissioners as president of the Washington Ports Association for two years.

Barnes is a Tri Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau board member. Givens has twice been the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau Board chairman. Barnes is a Kiwanis member. Givens is a Kiwanis past president. Barnes is a Tri-City Economic Development Council board member. Givens was too, and served on the selection committee that hired the current TRIDEC director.

The only true leadership experience Barnes lists in the voters' pamphlet is being past president of the Columbia Basin Fly Casters.

Givens' leadership credentials are extensive and include being a former Kennewick Man of the Year and Leadership Tri-Cities Distinguished Service Award recipient.

Barnes' board appointments to the TCVCB and TRIDEC have both come within the past year as an appointee to the Port of Kennewick commission. Given those leadership comparisons, Givens has our vote.
