DUI collision near Grandview sends five to hospital, state patrol says

Tri-City HeraldOctober 21, 2013

— A Yakima man driving under the influence caused a five-car collision early Monday morning on Interstate 82 near Grandview, the Washington State Patrol said.

Five people were taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital.

Efrain M. Palominos, 49, was driving east when his Ford Probe stopped in the right lane, state patrol said. Troopers say Palominos was under the influence.

A Chevy Tahoe driven by Jaime Raquel Castelar, 24, of Sunnyside, crashed into Palominos’ car, the state patrol said. Aristeo Ruiz Jimenez, 24, of Sunnyside, saw the collision and slowed to switch lanes.

Jimenez’s Chevy Impala was hit by a Chevy Cruze driven by Cora E. Rodriguez, 27, of Union Gap, the state patrol said. Rodriguez’s car then was struck by a Ford Taurus driven by Joannie Trevizo, 30, of Sunnyside.

Trevizo reportedly had a passenger, Maribel Alvarez, 21, of Sunnyside, in her car.

Everyone except for Castelar was taken to the hospital with unknown conditions.
