Election letter: No on I-522

October 20, 2013

I am not opposed to the concept of expanding food labeling as long as it is done on a national standard and is not biased. Initiative 522 gives unfair exemptions to some products while placing burdens on others. It is essential that Washington farmers and distributors be able to compete with other states and countries on an equal basis.

American agriculture is one of the very few industries we have left that can do its job better than anywhere else in the world despite being overregulated. Farmers are not the enemy. When you vote on I-522, remember that you are gambling with our own Washington state economy. There is no advantage to I-522.
