Tri-City HeraldOctober 19, 2013

An Othello man suffered minor injuries Friday when a train plowed through his semi-truck as it crossed the tracks near Warden.

Jamie Veliz, 38, drove his semi across a private crossing at 18857 County Road 2 Southeast into the path of an oncoming Columbia Basin Railroad train, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

The train reportedly hit the semi around 3 p.m. and pushed it off the west side of the tracks.

Veliz was treated and released at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, the sheriff's office said. The train's three crew members were not injured.

The semi was destroyed, though two trailers it was hauling were not damaged. The train had minor damage.

The sheriff's office and Columbia Basin Railroad officials are investigating the collision.
