Letter: GOP throws a tantrum over Obamacare

October 17, 2013

In the dead of night, House Republicans voted to move the government closer to a shutdown. Like bullies surreptitiously preparing to beat up the next pedestrian, House Republicans acquiesced to the radicals and voted to delay Obamacare, knowing full well that it had no chance of passing the Senate and ensuring the government would be shut down. Our own representative, Doc Hastings, voted for this bill.

No sane Republicans stood up against this absurdity. No leaders; no one seeking a rational approach to avoid a government closure and presenting viable solutions that would help their constituents and the nation. No presentation of alternate health care solutions, no seeking solutions for our economic recovery, nothing to show the sanity in their objections to Obamacare -- instead, a tantrum.

We need to elect real leaders to Congress, not someone who talks of common sense and then votes to close the government, not someone who won't compromise and seeks instead to ransom the nation's economic recovery. We need a believer in our form of government, someone willing to keep the government's doors open.
