Finley man booked into jail after ramming patrol cars

A Finley man accused of threatening sheriff’s deputies with a sword and destroying two patrol cars was booked into the Benton County jail Wednesday.

Shane DeWeber, 33, is on a 72-hour hold while prosecutors review his case. He will make his first appearance Friday in Benton County Superior Court.

DeWeber was booked after he was released form a Kennewick hospital, said Lt. Chuck Jones, Benton County Sheriff’s Office spokesman. He was treated at Trios Health, formerly Kennewick General Hospital, for injuries he suffered when his truck crashed into the patrol cars.

DeWeber was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute early Tuesday with his estranged wife. The incident ended when he allegedly drove his Dodge Ram pickup into the patrol cars. A Kennewick officer and sheriff deputy involved in the collision were not injured.

Investigators believe DeWeber may have been under the influence of narcotics during the incident, Jones said.
