DUI suspect arrested in damaged vehicle hours after hit and run

— A man suspected of driving under the influence reportedly fled the scene of a collision and was arrested hours later driving in a damaged vehicle.

Kennewick police responded to a hit and run near 27th Avenue and Olympia Street Wednesday night. A man told police he was turning into the Yoke's Fresh Market parking lot when he was rear-ended.

The suspect apparently drove off after the collision, police said. The hood of the car the suspect was driving had reportedly popped up.

At 12:05 a.m. Thursday morning, officers spotted Christopher Heckman driving near 27th Avenue and Olympia Street with the hood to his car popped up and his engine smoking, police said.

Heckman was arrested and booked into the Benton County jail on suspicion of DUI and hit and run.
