PROSSER -- A Prosser educator will be honored in mid-January for her work mentoring students and preparing them for college.

Connie Hachtel, an instructional coach at Housel Middle School, will receive the Golden Apple, an annual award given by public television station KCTS in Seattle and the Pemco Insurance Co., according to a release.

Along with coaching students and teachers, primarily in math, Hachtel is the AVID site director for the middle school. AVID is a program aimed at better preparing students to learn and continue education after high school.

Hachtel will be featured in a special program on KCTS and receive a cash award with the honor.
