Girls soccer: Kamiakin bounces back, beats Southridge

October 8, 2013

Ellie Heiden had a goal and an assist to lead Kamiakin to a 2-1 victory over Southridge on Tuesday in Mid-Columbia Conference action at Southridge High.

The victory keeps the Braves in a first-place tie in league with Chiawana, which defeated Richland 1-0.

“I was really pleased,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said. “We played our game this time, instead of letting the other team dictate how we were going to play — especially the first 25 minutes.”

Kamiakin was coming off of its first loss of the season, a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chiawana on Saturday.

Parker Lee opened the scoring in the 16th minute off a pass from Heiden. Southridge then tied it late in the first half on a goal by Bree Lane, but Heiden scored off an assist by Lexi McQueary to send the Braves home winners.

“Southridge came on strong at the end of the game,” Erikson said. “We had a great finish by Ellie in the second half to give us the win. It was good teamwork and good passing.”
