Over the next two decades the Tri-Cities population is expected to grow to around 400,000 people, according to the latest reports. In order to meet the expectations and economic needs of our community, we need to plan and expand critical contributors that will benefit us financially, as well as improve our quality of life.
Expanding the Three Rivers Convention Center makes good sense. It will benefit our community economically by adding new jobs, boosting visitor attraction and spending, and stimulating private business investing in our area.
The increase in sales tax is minimal. It will provide a return in investment with substantial dividends for this community. Please vote yes on Proposition 1!!
Stop paying for nothing
I will try to make this brief and to the point. Our politicians are behaving like the spoiled brats they are. Once again, the threat of a government shutdown has been realized. As always, the hardest hit are those most financially fragile.
I believe this is politics by intimidation and fear, and screams lack of leadership. If we had real leadership, a budget would have been approved and passed last March or April at the latest. However, to even consider requiring our military to work without pay is beyond the pale!
I have a better idea -- the president and Congress should be denied their pay while the government is shut down. They made this mess and they should fix it, without the taxpayers having to pay for such incompetence!
KGH board: Reil
I have been a personal friend and a business associate of Rick Reil for 35 years.
He is extremely engaging, creative and innovative. Years ago, he suggested we put our resources together and publish a book. I was doubtful of my offering; sharing life experiences as a wheelchair-bound mom, but with Rick's professional-grade photos and experiences in publishing, we were successful.
He has since spent years in community- and church-related activities driven by a commitment to make a positive contribution to improve the quality of life in the Tri-Cities. I'm grateful that he continues to put himself out there to serve the public. He is one of the few I can confidently vote for.
