Kennewick Community Education is presenting a two-evening workshop on the introduction to knapping, the art of making stone-cutting tools such as arrowheads, stone scrappers, drills and knives.
Participants will learn to use percussion techniques to create spalls and shape those spalls to preforms. Pressure flaking of the preforms then will be used to refine the shape and make notches. Each participant is required to bring protective eyeglasses or goggles, and to wear closed-toe shoes and gloves to each session.
Advance registration is required and there is a $26 workshop fee, plus $30 fee for take-home tool kit. The workshop is limited is 10 participants.
Workshop dates are Wednesday and Oct. 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Southridge High School in Kennewick. For registration and information, go to http://communityed.ksd.org or call 222-5080.
