Our Congressman Doc Hastings and his buddies in the House of Representatives have voted 40 times to repeal Obamacare, knowing full well it would not get past the Senate not to mention survive a veto at the White House. Apparently they believe that if something doesn't work, keep doing it. Not able to win via a democratic process, they resorted to extortion by threatening to shut down the government if they did not get their way.
What puzzled me was why U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings would vote to shut down the government when his district is dependent on the government to complete one of the most complex environmental cleanup projects in the world at Hanford. But when I checked his voting record, Doc has a zero percent rating from the League of Conservation Voters, indicating his consistent anti-environment votes. Other groups give him similar ratings on public health votes.
I am forced to conclude that Doc just doesn't like people to have health care or a clean environment. We pay Doc $174,000 per year plus generous benefits to vote against our own interests. How smart is that?
