Burglar blocks woman from leaving her Kennewick home

October 6, 2013

— A Kennewick woman woke Sunday morning to find a man sitting on her sofa, which he had moved to block her front door, according to Kennewick police.

Bernice Roberts, who lives in the 1100 block of N. Cleveland Street, heard someone inside her home at 3:19 a.m., according to police reports.

When she found the man on her sofa, she told him to leave but he refused.

She tried to leave through the back door, but he pushed her and held the door shut, according to police.

Her son, Jeffrey Mohl, was outside and heard the commotion.

He tried to get into the home through a back door, but the burglar held the door shut, according to police reports.

The burglar then left the apartment through the front door, with Mohl following him.

Based on a description Mohl called in to 911, police found the suspect at Rocket Mart at Canal Drive and Edison Street.

James Braithwaite, 27, was arrested on suspicion of first degree burglary.
