Lila and George Derrick of Richland celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 28 with a family gathering.

They were married Aug. 28, 1943, in Ada, Idaho. They moved to the Tri-City area in 1956.

Lila worked as a bookkeeper for Stromme Motors in Pasco in the 1950s, then she worked as a bookkeeper for Mayfair Markets in Kennewick during the 1960s. She has been a homemaker for the past 30 years.

George worked as the store manager for FW Woolworths in Pasco in the 1950s. He joined the Richland Police Department before the department came under the jurisdiction of the city rather than a part of Hanford. He retired as captain in 1975 from the Richland Police Department. He then worked part time as a security guard for Exxon Nuclear Fuels, escorting nuclear fuel shipments all over the United States.

Their children are Sterling Derrick and the late Georgia Derrick. They have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
