Fast Focus: 'Should Congress hold the budget hostage to kill Obamacare?' Just following Obama's precedent

October 6, 2013

It seems reasonable for the U.S. House of Representatives to use the same strategy on Obamacare as what the Obama Administration has done with the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository site: Circumvent the legislative process by using the budget to kill it. Oh, one big difference, in the case of Obamacare the House is trying to do what the majority of working, taxpaying families have said they favor: Kill Obamacare. This is the opposite of the Yucca Mountain situation, where the Obama Administration clearly is not at all motivated by the will of the people.

Oh, one other big difference, the House is up front and honest about what they are doing. Again, the opposite of the Obama Administration, who after two or three years of political leaders from both parties demanding an answer on Yucca Mountain, finally came out and said there never was a technical reason for trying to kill it.

The House should do whatever they can to force responsible action on Obamacare not only because that is what a majority of working, taxpaying families has said they desire but also because it is clearly very poor legislation. To quote Nancy Pelosi, who was running the House when they crammed it through at the objection of most voters. "We don't know what is in this bill." Really? Then why did they cram it through? As the years and months have passed and we have all learned more and more about what is in it, it has only become increasingly clear that it is bad legislation. Obama guaranteed that it was not a new tax. The Supreme Court of the United States begs to differ -- the only way they could justify not striking it down as unconstitutional was to say that it was a tax.

Another lie: Obama told us that if we like the coverage we currently have we would get to keep it. Not true at all. Many of us can personally attest to the fact that we are now paying more for different and less coverage as a direct result of Obamacare. There are more lies and distortions, but we do not have space to cover all of them here.

Obamacare is irresponsible legislation that goes against the stated desires of a majority of the working, taxpaying citizens. If left in place, it almost certainly will lead to a complete federal government takeover of the entire health care system since it ultimately incentivizes major employers to eventually stop offering medical care benefits (several have already taken that step). An even more bloated government is the last thing we need, especially given all the projections that within the next decade or two interest on the national debt will exceed the GDP. Obamacare pushes us on to a future financial crisis that will dwarf any this country has seen. Watch current day Spain and Greece to see what our future holds.

Obamacare is a concept that is in opposition to the wisdom of the Founding Fathers and is not wanted by the people. It should be struck down, and if the House needs to use a strategy already previously employed by the Obama administration on Yucca Mountain to achieve that, so be it. At least they would be listening to the voters.
