Americans lose on the road at Everett

October 5, 2013

EVERETT — The Tri-City Americans were shut out for the first time this season as Austin Lotz stopped all 29 shots that came his way in leading the Everett Silvertips to a 2-0 victory Friday night at Comcast Arena.

The Americans (2-4-0-1, 5 points), eighth in the Western Conference, have today off before playing a Sunday matinee at Victoria.

The Silvertips (3-1-0-0, 6 points) opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by Jujhar Khaira at 12:30.

Tri-City’s best scoring chance in the first came on a power play about 4 minutes into the game as Brian Williams hit the post. Williams, who has eight goals in seven games, was held scoreless by the stingy Everett defense.

A scoreless second period left Everett with a 1-0 lead with 20 minutes to play.

The Silvertips added to their lead with a power-play goal by Carson Stadnyk at 6:53. It was just the second power play allowed by the Americans on their last 20 penalty kills.

The Americans pulled goalie Eric Comrie for an extra attacker with 2:30 to play in regulation, but failed to get anything past Lotz.

Comrie finished with 24 saves.

Joshua Winquist had two assists for Everett, while Khaira added an assist.
