Football: Shadle Park's Rypien throws for 613 yards

October 3, 2013

Shadle Park quarterback Brett Rypien threw for 613 yards and eight touchdowns in 63-42 victory Thursday against Mount Spokane at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane.

The 613 passing yards sets the 11-man single game record for the state of Washington, shattering the previous mark of 577 that Rypien set last year.

Rypien, the nephew of former Washington State and Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien, threw for a whopping 480 yards in the first half alone. Mount Spokane had a few long drives in the second half to keep Rypien on the sideline.

There have been three 600-yard passing games in 8-man games, including the state record held by Tri-Cities Prep’s Will Hoppes.

Hoppes threw for 639 yards in a game in 2008. He holds the record for career passing yards with 10,537 in 41 games.

Lummi’s Dustin Tom threw for 635 and 611 yards in 2008, and holds the single-season passing record at 5,268 yards in 12 games.
