Letter: Reporting appreciated

October 3, 2013

I wanted to thank your editors and writers for the Sept. 1-2 series regarding the salaries and bonuses of public officials in the Tri-Cities.

The comparisons made, locally and out of the area, helped clear up the fairness of existing salaries and bonuses, and the reasons behind them.

I appreciate the former mayor of Spokane making the inquiry regarding Pasco City manager Gary Crutchfield's bonus, which did seem excessive, but with the explanation of bonuses being made instead of raises, it made sense.

This seems to me an example of why a good local newspaper is vital to a community. Where else would we be able get this kind of information? Thank you.
